Tomokazu Matsuyama: In and Out
The bright, complex, pop-inspired images of Tomokazu Matsuyama’s signature style offer a contemplative look at cultural identity in the age of the internet.
Born in Japan but living and working in Brooklyn, New York, the prolific artist reflects on his own experience to explore the personal implications of cross-cultural identity for a globalized generation. He freely blends art histories from East and West while combining domestic motifs with both traditional and modern patterns lifted from textiles, scrolls, wallpapers, and more. The result is both familiar and strange, abstract and representative.
Matsuyama presents an overview of his remarkable reality in two volumes.
Bilingual in Japanese and English.
