On a foggy day off the coast of California, all seemed lost for artist Young-Il Ahn as he drifted listlessly in a small rented fishing boat. His marriage was over. His gallery and his patron were embroiled in a decade-long legal battle. He had destroyed most of his paintings and cut himself off from society. Then, just as he was questioning his very existence, the suffocating fog lifted, revealing color and light reflected and refracted on the water's rippling surface.

With this vision, he felt he had discovered his purpose: to capture the essence of water and light with his art. A near-tragic moment had become the epiphany that would guide his artistic vision.

And still it flows towards me: A Life Lived with Art tells Ahn's story, from humble beginnings in a small town in postwar Korea to his apex as a celebrated artist. He became the first Korean-American to hold a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and is today a preeminent member of the LA art scene.

This autobiography has an English edition and a Korean edition. Each edition features full-color illustrations of artworks and photographs from the artist's archives.
