Gerald Williams (b. 1941, USA) is an American painter whose work explores culture, place, and identity from a global perspective. Williams was a founder of AFRICOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists), the influential art collective that emerged from the South Side of Chicago in the 1960s and was a leading force in the Black Arts Movement. AFRICOBRA sought to make positive revolutionary images that would propel Black culture forward.

Over the past five decades, Williams has lived and worked in South Korea, Japan, Kenya, The Azores, and throughout the United States, evolving his painting practice into a polyrhythmic representation of life at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, defined by what he calls “mimesis at midpoint.”
