The Jewel Thief explores ways to think about and experience abstract art. The exhibition and this accompanying publication focus attention on art’s intersection with the decorative and functional elements of architecture. Artwork is presented through the lens of several opposing yet fluid categories that exist in our everyday lives, such as private and public, intimate and spectacular, and hot and cold.

Presented at Wachenheim Gallery and Atrium, September 18, 2010–February 27, 2011, the group exhibition was curated by Ian Berry, Susan Rabinowitz Malloy ’45 Curator of the Tang Museum, and Jessica Stockholder, Director of Graduate Studies in Sculpture, Yale University.

Edited and with an introduction by Ian Berry and Jessica Stockholder. Texts by James Hyde, Steven Henry Madoff, Kim Rosenfeld, Barry Schwabsky, and Jessica Stockholder. Photographs by Tim Davis, Bill Jacobson, Amanda Ross-Ho, and Alan Wiener. Designed by Beverly Joel / pulp, ink.

Published by Tang, 2014, debossed, Swiss-bound softcover, 96 pages, 10.5 x 8.5 inches.
