Manuel Mathieu: Recueil Volume #1
Manuel Mathieu (b. 1986) employs a haunting mix of figuration and abstraction in his works, which take as their subject the ephemeral connection between what is tangible about life and what is fleeting. Embedded in the work are details of the artist’s life during the 21 years he stayed in his home country Haiti, and his experiences living and working in London and Montreal since. Manuel’s compositions are guided by the aesthetic traditions of Haiti and are permeated with emotionally charged imagery that reflects on the simultaneous beauty and struggle to which the artist has been witness.
This artist's publication features full-color illustrations of works on paper, as well as texts by James Noël, Jérôme Sans, Pata Macedo, Cynthia Falaise, and Jules Gaulin. In French with some English titles.
